NATIONAL WATER A FLOWER DAY

by Michael Radie

Today, on May 30th, we celebrate National Water A Flower Day, a special occasion dedicated to caring for our garden plants. This day reminds us to keep our flower gardens hydrated, as it plays a vital role in their growth and well-being. Caring for plants can be a therapeutic activity, and the more attention and care we provide, the better they flourish.

When tending to your garden, it's essential to understand the watering needs of your flowers. Some plants prefer damp soil, while others thrive in drier conditions. Newly planted seeds require daily watering until germination, and most plants prefer well-drained soil. If your flowers are potted, they may need daily watering, while those planted in the ground or heat-resistant plants may require less frequent watering.

National Water A Flower Day also presents an opportunity to show kindness to others. Consider visiting a friend who is homebound or in the hospital and bring them some freshly watered flowers to lift their spirits.

To observe this day, make sure to tend to your beautiful flowers and keep them properly hydrated. And don't forget to stay hydrated yourself! Share your gardening experiences and photos on social media using the hashtag #WaterAFlowerDay.

Although the exact origins of this gardening holiday are still being researched by the National Day Calendar, there are many other garden-related celebrations to explore throughout the year. Some examples include Pollinators Month, World HoneyBee Month, National Garden Week, Asparagus Month, World Bee Day, National Gardening Day, World Naked Gardening Day, Lawn and Garden Month, and Indoor Plant Week.
